THE SIXTH DAY
"It's as if someone said, "Let's remake "Total Recall" except a lot, lot
worse". - Entertainment Weekly |
|
In the movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a
helicopter pilot who has a big problem with cloning which is outlawed in the
futuristic society he lives in. While coming home one day for his birthday, he
sees his double in the house celebrating his birthday. But something doesn't
seem right. Now he's on the run from a top-secret organization who wants to
terminate him (Pun intended) before the secret gets out about the clone. But as
he goes throughout the movie, he begins to wonder, who's the clone? Him, or the
guy he saw in the house? I'll never tell.
The special-effects are cool in this
movie. We get to see a weird futuristic society made up of holograms, tall
skyscrapers, and lots of illegal cloning. I like the way the helicopters would
change into an airplane like a transformers toy. Pretty cool.
Ah, I remember the days of Schwarzenegger and
Stallone. A time where they ruled the box-office with such hits like "Terminator",
"Rocky", and "Terminator 2". Unfortunately, those days are all over, and audiences
have become somewhat tired. That's where this stinker comes in. Wow,
this is below the quality of any other Schwarzenegger movie I've seen before. It
sickens me. First, we'll start with the plot. This plot is not entirely
original, and it leaves alot of room for the people in this movie to secretly
debate on the whether the concept of cloning is playing god or just another step
in technology. I found it just plain dull. I didn't care about anyone in here.
Especially, Schwarzenegger who hams it up very much in an attempt at being
dramatic. The cast is comprised of big stars like Tony Goldwyn, Robert Duvall,
and Michael Rappapport. Why they would even be in this stinker is a riddle to
me. Robert Duvall's role in this movie is inadequate and he gets outshined by the
unbelievable trash in this flick. The setting is bleak and very generic, and we
never really give much of a rats butt to take the time to appreciate it. The
dialogue is decrepit and consists of mostly bad one- liners and Arnold becomes a
tool of the government by making an attempt to throw in some propaganda on
violence in the media. At one point while attempting to run away, they get
caught by some guards. So he pushes his daughter and wife to the side and points
the gun. That's when he says, "Let's keep this nice and clean, I don't want my
daughter to see any violence, she gets enough of that from the media." Puh-lease. That line was so obvious and
so transparent that it made me cringe in my seat. He also makes an attempt at
propaganda by the weapons in this movie. There's barely any violence in this,
and instead of the people carrying guns, they carry around laser guns that when
shot at someone makes a clean clear hole through their body. God, what a
pushover.
This is a stinker, and I suggest you don't waste your money on this one. Sure,
there are some surprises in this, but it's not worth the time.
