LEGALLY BLONDE
(Blonde but not dumb) |
|
In the movie, Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is a popular
frat queen who is basically a blonde airhead. But when her boyfriend Warner leaves her to
go to Harvard and basically calls her too dumb for him, she enrolls in Harvard to chase
after him, but while she does that, discovers law and struggles to become accepted as a
lawyer.
You know, I was actually surprised that this was such a good film. The plot, first
of all, is very original. I like the fact that everyone Elle loves doesn't really take her
seriously and basically patronizes her thinking she's just a dumb blonde. I love how she
ends up proving them wrong in the end. Did you know this is a true story? Yup. The
original woman wrote a book about her experiences and Hollywood made this into a movie.
I loved the cast. All
of them played an intricate importance to the flick. My favorite of course, was Reese
Witherspoon. I don't think anyone could have played her role any better. She is so
likeable, and at times, very sexy. We're able to feel sorry for her and we can tell she
struggles to be taken seriously by her friends. Reese does it well. Selma Blair is great
as Elle's rival turned best friend. It may not seem realistic in the movie, but that's just
how it works out sometimes in life. Ali Larter is excellent as Elle's first case as a
woman who was accused of shooting her rich old husband. Ali Larter always struts her good looks while remaining likeable. Luke Wilson is
very good as Elle's friend who basically supports her through her quest as a lawyer and
never takes her for granted. The co-stars could never keep up with Reese Witherspoon. They
were more like background characters than co-stars whenever they shared the screen with
Reese. She was always able to become more in sync. Anyways, the film is very cheerful and
light-hearted and never gets too heavy emotionally. In the end we're left with a great
feeling of satisfaction and love for Elle's character and her struggles and somehow, we
ourselves have a great feeling of accomplishment.
And This is funny why? I mean sure, this has alot of heart,
but where's the comedy? Most of it reminded me of clueless with its stupid fashion
references and all. It would have been cool as a dram-edy, yet they labeled it as a
comedy. This movie was also so predictable. We know there's a happy ending to it or else
there wouldn't be so much lighthearted material, the characters at times can be very
stereotypical. Very few flaws.
A funny sweet comedy drama with a great
performance by Reese Witherspoon and an all around great plot.
