DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

I'm not a fan of the "Dungeons and Dragons" franchise. It has a reputation of having a geeky following. Anyways, I love the cartoon from the eighties. When I found out a movie was being made, I was psyched. It's not what I expected, but it's good. It's about a mage named Profion who is trying to obtain a scroll that can open the portal to a world, so he can find a jewel called the "Dragon's Eye". A gem that can control powerful Red Dragons. Two thieves must help a female mage and keep Profion from finding it before they do. This is just okay. The movie is pretty cool with great special-effects and scenery. It gives off a very fantasy feel. It's great. The plot is very interesting. Marlon Wayan's provides great comic relief as the heroes sidekick. I appreciate they stood true to the concept of Dungeons and Dragons. The whole maze scene with the hero apprehending the Dragon's Eye was the best scene out of the entire film.

This is very sloppy. Alot of the characters are very exaggerated and not emphasized on. We didn't get to know these heroes, saving this land. We have an elf woman, who is barely in the movie, A big dwarf who is disgusting, and again, barely in the movie. We have Marlon Wayans who is used for comic relief and overacts his part incredibly, and The hott Zoe Mclellan who is not much of a character. The villains are very cool, yet the heroes are droll and sloppy. Not to mention Thora Birche's horrible horrible acting as the empress of Izmer. She under-acts and overacts her part well. The film tries to be very "Star Wars" like with the bar scene, and empress getting grilled by a council. Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. The worst part of the movie is the ending. Not only did it confuse me, but it left me saying, Huh? What was the ending all about anyways? If you know, tell me.

A very sloppy "Star Wars" wannabe that could have been better if they had only tried harder.
