Based on the hit video-game, we meet Lady Lara Croft,
owner of a huge mansion and limitless riches who discovers a clock that is the key to a
huge machine that can control time. But there is an secret evil organization name the
"Illuminati" who wants to seize it as well and use it for evil purposes. Can
Lara Croft seize the key before they do and keep them from destroying the world?
My cousin
used to have these games. He would spend hours shooting up bad guys and discovering
ancient artifacts, all the while controlling this beautiful rich Brit who fought
like a tom-boy and shot like a military sharp- shooter. What can I say about this movie
that you probably haven't read on other reviews by other critics. So excuse me if this is
an ingeminate of past reviews. First off, we'll start with the key to the movie. Angelina
Jolie. The woman who made this movie worth watching. My, how she is a hot woman, and she
uses her looks to pull off the role as Lara Croft well. In fact, she's the best thing in
this movie. She is great portraying the character of Lara Croft, giving off a great sense
of beauty and grace while showing great masculinity and ferocity in battle. She's a gem to beware
and she lets everyone know in the movie. The fight choreography is dazzling and
really exciting to watch. The plot is good, time machine, evil organization
wants it, she has to get it before they do. Pretty Simple. The action is great as well. Jolie can pull off the action scenes well and makes them look very believable. My favorite
scene in the movie is the scene where the statues come to life. Those explorers didn't
have a chance. Nevertheless, this is an all around guy flick, and a fun popcorn romp.
Boy, was this disappointing. This has so much flaws that I
don't really know where to start. First of all, the plot is very drab compared to the
plots from the games. Where are the mercenaries? Where are the spies? Where are the top
secret locations? Where are the lions and tigers? Not visible in this movie, I'll tell you
that. The plot seemed so rushed. The action is very rare in this movie, and when we do see
action, the big scenes are cut very short, not giving us enough chance to absorb it
in and get excited. For example, The statue scene. Now, if executed well and
lengthened to a tolerable degree, this could have been a great scene and killer
part. But if fails. The statues are slow and easily eliminated and are only
around for a total of a minute and half... or so I estimated. Then, Lara
accidentally frees this huge statue who wields four swords. Now I expected a
long stomp and smash moment, but we got less. Lara easily exterminates of it,
making the scene relatively pointless and dull. It seemed Simon West didn't put
much thought into the action. Too bad, because he robs us of seeing a
potentially truly great action flick. There were some scenes that made this
hokey and corny at times, which made me disconnect from the film. For example,
the scene where Lara is riding the dogsled on her feet. That was not only cheesy
and hokey, it was also farfetched.
Now mind you, this
isn't a bad movie. Perhaps Hardcore "Tomb Raider" fans will eat this up, but
this critic found this as an underdone portrayal of a potentially excellent
action flick. My opinion, stick to the games for true action, folks.
