Connie Summer (Diane Lane  The Cotton Club, Hardball) is your average housewife. She has a son, a busy job, and a caring husband (Richard Gere  Chicago). One day during a bad wind storm she crashes into a french bookseller named Paul Martel (Olivier Martinez   Before Night Falls) who offers her bandages in her apartment. There, he manages to seduce her, and the two form a hot steamy affair with one another, but now she must face the guilt and face her husband who begins suspecting their affair.
    I was interested in watching this movie, for the one part that I'm in love with Diane Lane, but mostly because I think Adrian Lynne is a good director. The movie's mood is very mellow and relaxed, and the entire movie can make a crowd of people seem almost insignificant in the plot as we tend to see the Connie character set out amongst the rest. Throughout the entire movie, Connie and Paul are having a lusty steamy affair with each other, and it begins affecting her life slowly. Richard Gere gives a great performance as Connie's husband; he's very off-type in this movie, because he usually plays the suave debonair characters, and in this one, he's just a humble family man who must face his wife's infidelity. I thought Gere was very underrated in this and should have been considered for an Oscar. Diane Lane gives an excellent performance as Connie, a woman who is basically happy, yet cheats on her husband for reasons still unknown to me. She's such an unlikable and despicable woman that the fact Lane could pull it off showed skill. The entire movie's atmosphere is taut and very suspenseful as we not only witness the affair but the torment Gere's character experiences.

The entire movie is too gloomy and dreary to watch. The whole scenery, taking place in New York, feels so artificial and closed off. The movie's mood is grim and the pacing of the story is at a slug's pace. The whole movie also lags in plot, as most of it consists of sex scenes between Lane and Martinez which are poorly choreographed and barely believable. I never felt the steam between them, and at times found it laughable the way they made love. The entire movie is simply disappointing.

A fairly disappointing but realistically decent suspense drama with great performances but terrible material. This is a steamy movie and is suggested mostly for the women audience.
